EL CHARABON

El Charabón is an authentic estancia in the heart of the Rocha district, not far from José Ignacio.

Surrounded by rolling hills and in close proximity to the Atlantic coast, this is a perfect way to experience rural Uruguay. The estancia is family-run and has been in the same family for three generations. It is a working farm, breeding cattle and sheep. Set in 950 hectares, 150 of which are planted with eucalyptus and native trees, El Charabón is a leader in agro tourism. The nine rooms are decorated in a charming, rustic style with warmth and authenticity and are split between Standard and Superior. All are air conditioned and each is uniquely decorated with hand-picked antiques and paintings by the owner, Graciela.

Dinner is served en famille in the dining room and guests can enjoy delicious local dishes, made with fresh ingredients, some of which are produced on the farm. Barbeques are popular and nothing tastes better than a traditional asado. Horse riding is a popular activity here and guests can enjoy trips out with the gauchos, exploring the rolling pampas and even visiting a local beach. Other activities include trekking, photo safaris, or simply relaxing in the gardens or enjoying a swim in the pool. Guests can get involved in many aspects of farm life to learn about handling the cattle, milking, branding and rodeo.
