There are numerous national parks in Kenya, each of them a special destination in their own right. Head to the Maasai Mara to experience one of the world’s most important wildlife events, the Great Migration and the relationship of the Maasai tribe with the wildlife and their way of life. Get in touch with the origins of humanity in the Great rift Valley and take in the spectacular lakes and flocks of stunning pink flamingos. Visit Amboseli to encounter game with the stunning backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro or Tsavo East and West for two very different landscapes and a safari without the crowds.
Conservation is big in Kenya and a lot of work goes into collaborating with local tribes such as the Maasai and Samburu as well as combatting poaching and illegal wildlife trade. Visit Jane Goodall’s chimpanzee sanctuary in Ol Pejeta National Park and destinations such as the Lewa National reserve or Laikipia Plateau for encounters with endangered species such as the black rhino and Grevy’s zebra.
Kenya is not all about the safari and there are some stunning beaches worth including for some relaxation. Our favourite is without doubt the Lamu Archipelago, a tropical paradise of islands with stunning beaches surrounded by azure waters.

To experience Kenya’s wildlife, landscapes and culture without rushing, we recommend a trip of 10 to 14 days. This allows time for a multi-day safari across different ecosystems, such as the Masai Mara, Laikipia or Amboseli, with time to relax before or after. If combining wildlife and beach, aim for at least 10 days for a balanced experience.
While Kenya can be a fulfilling trip in its own right, it also combines naturally with other East African countries. A popular pairing is with Tanzania, particularly for those wanting to experience both the Masai Mara and Serengeti, especially during the Great Migration season. Uganda or Rwanda also pair well for gorilla trekking, and Zanzibar or Kenya’s own coastal islands like Lamu offer a relaxed beach extension post-safari. For shorter itineraries, however, we recommend focusing on Kenya alone to avoid rushing.
Most travellers, including those from the UK, US, EU, Canada, Australi, and New Zealand, require an e-visa to enter Kenya. As of recent changes, the process is done entirely online via the official Kenya Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) platform. Visas should be arranged before travel, and your passport should be valid for at least six months from your entry date. For the latest information, always check with your nearest Kenyan consulate or embassy.
Certain vaccinations are recommended. If you’re travelling from or transiting through a country with a yellow fever risk, proof of yellow fever vaccination is required. Additionally, vaccines such as tetanus, hepatitis A, typhoid and MMR are advised. Malaria is present in some areas of Kenya, so anti-malarial medication is typically recommended. It’s best to visit a travel clinic at least 4 to 6 weeks before departure for personalised guidance based on your itinerary.
Kenya is generally safe for visitors, especially in well-established safari areas and national parks, which are the focus of most luxury trips. The country has a well-developed tourism infrastructure and experienced local guides. As with any international travel, we recommend basic precautions: avoid urban areas at night, use trusted drivers and lodges and stay updated on travel advice. Safari circuits, conservancies and beach destinations such as Diani or Lamu are well-managed and welcoming to international guests.
