Conscious Travel

We’re often asked why we chose travel, and the answer is simple: the people, the culture, the wildlife and everything that makes these countries so vibrant and fascinating. It’s this passion that drives us to give something back to the places that give us so much when we visit.

As the world becomes more accessible, tourism brings incredible opportunities, not just for travellers, but for the communities we visit. At Humboldt, our mission is responsible travel that supports, rather than exploits, these local communities. We have chosen to sponsor a child in Latin America, Africa and Asia. We believe firmly that children are the future, and we have found three wonderful organisations that work to support children in their countries and ensure they have everything they need for a bright future.

The Sol y Luna Foundation is located in Peru’s Sacred Valley. Started by Petit Miribel and her family in 1997, the foundation has worked tirelessly since then to alleviate extreme poverty for families in the Sacred Valley and around. They have built a school, a home for many children, a foundation for children with additional needs and an orphanage, all providing them with an education, additional support where necessary, food and accommodation. They have created a beautiful hotel to support this amazing mission, but they still rely on outside support.

This covers the cost of her time at the Sol y Luna home including her education, food, accommodation, clothing, food, school supplies, healthcare and psychological support.

The Secluded Africa Conservation Trust was created in 2017 and is doing great work supporting communities and conservation in Kenya. They work tirelessly for the improvement of facilities, environmental protection and conservation all for the benefit of the local communities. A large part of this is providing education for underprivileged children.

We have chosen to sponsor Elizabeth in her educational journey. In Kenya, high school is neither free nor compulsory and can be a great cost for many families living in poverty. Our sponsorship covers the cost of Elizabeth’s school fees, accommodation and all the expenses required to send her to high school.

Heartprint is an NGO working to support local communities in Cambodia. They provide holistic support to communities in the form of housing, education support and work opportunities to allow all Cambodians to have hope, dignity and opportunities.  

We sponsor Somaly (name changed for anonymity) through Heartprint’s Fund a Future programme.  This ensures that that Somaly has access to additional education in a variety of areas as well as their food programme and generally ensuring that Somaly is equipped with the confidence, resilience, and direction needed to build a sustainable future.

It is our absolute joy to support Melisa, Elizabeth and Somaly in their journeys, and they are the shining stars of our extended team. Their progression makes our work even more rewarding.
