Thailand is an enchanting mix of frantic city life, steaming jungles, mountains and idyllic beaches.
Thailand is a country that captivates all the senses with its stunning natural beauty, delicious cuisine, and wonderfully hospitable people.
This country is an enchanting mix of city, mountains, jungle, and beach. From the bustling capital of Bangkok to a tropical island paradise, from verdant rainforests to charming hillside villages, Thailand offers so much to its visitors at every turn.
Start in Bangkok and get to know both the old Thailand and the new. Visit busy markets, sample delicious street food and fine dining, and see all that the city has to offer in terms of ancient temples, vibrant nightlife, and modern culture.
Head further north to the charming cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Here you can soak up grand palaces and beautiful temples, enjoy the calmer pace of life, and experience local festivals. Use these cities as a gateway to the beauty of rural Thailand where you can go trekking or cycling through lush landscapes and visit remote hill tribes. This is also a great place to learn about Thai cuisine. We recommend visiting local markets to pick up fresh ingredients that you can use in a cooking class, having the opportunity to recreate some delicious traditional dishes.
For beaches and relaxation, Thailand is the perfect place. You will be spoilt for choice as you consider islands with pristine white sand beaches and azure waters. Enjoy island hopping through the stunning Andaman Sea, diving and snorkelling in beautiful coral reefs teeming with marine life, and simply soaking up the sun in a tropical island paradise.
Thailand really is a country that seems to have it all.
Whether snorkelling, island-hopping in the Andaman Sea or simply unwinding on powdery white sands, Thailand’s beaches promise laid-back luxury in a true tropical paradise.
From golden temples to vibrant street markets and world-class cuisine, Thailand blends deep-rooted traditions with buzzing modern energy, especially in cities like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai.
Trek through misty jungles, cycle past rice paddies, and visit remote hill tribes in the lush north, Thailand’s natural beauty and rural charm are perfect for those seeking immersive, active experiences.
Thailand is a year-round destination, but seasons vary by region. The cool, dry months from November to February are the most popular, while the monsoon season brings heavier rains to some areas at different times of year.
The Humboldt team’s Thailand highlights
“Thailand is a feast for the senses, and every dish I had on my three trips to Thailand was sensational. Because of this, I’d recommended a doing a cooking class. You can do these across the country, but I did mine in Bangkok. I learned how to make a few dishes, but my favourite was the Tom Kha. I constantly remake it at home, so much so that it’s always requested when friends and family visit.”

HEAD OF PRODUCT
“I recommend visiting Wat Phra That Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai and joining a short meditation session led by the monks. Climbing the staircase to reach the temple, lined with intricate naga serpents, already feels like stepping into another world. Once inside, the meditation allows you to learn the rhythm of the monks’ chants and experience the simplicity of their daily rituals.”

FOUNDER, TRAVEL DESIGNER
“One of my most unforgettable experiences was with elephants at the Four Seasons Tented Camp in the Golden Triangle. I visited the Elephant Foundation and learned about their sustainability model, observed their morning bathing ritual, joined a camp dinner and generally just learned everything I could about the elephants. It’s a really amazing experience where you really feel like you get to know the elephants and the mahouts.”

TRAVEL CONCIERGE
“In my opinion, one of the best hotel views in the world is the View Room at Six Senses Yao Noi. It has floor-to-ceiling windows which open to panoramic views of the Andaman Sea, and every detail of the villa, from private pool to personalised service, makes it feel like a world of your own, perfect for relaxing in absolute luxury.”

FOUNDER, TRAVEL DESIGNER
Thailand is a vibrant and diverse country, so the ideal trip length depends on your interests. A classic introduction covering Bangkok, the cultural riches of Chiang Mai, and some beach time in the south (such as Phuket or Krabi) can be done in 10 to 14 days. For a deeper dive into Thailand’s rich heritage, stunning islands and northern hill tribes, two to three weeks is recommended. This timeframe allows you to balance city life, cultural immersion, and beach relaxation without feeling rushed.
Thailand offers such a rich and varied travel experience that many travellers choose to keep it as a stand-alone destination to fully immerse themselves in its culture and landscapes. However, if you wish to extend your trip, Thailand pairs naturally with neighbouring countries like Vietnam and Cambodia. These countries are well connected by short flights or overland routes, allowing you to explore the vibrant cities, historical sites and beautiful landscapes of each. A multi-country itinerary including Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam can offer a diverse and fascinating journey through Southeast Asia.
Visa requirements depend on your nationality. Many countries, including the UK, US, EU, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, benefit from visa-free entry for stays ranging from 15 to 30 days for tourism. For longer stays, or different passport holders, a visa may be required and can usually be obtained in advance via Thai embassies or consulates. Visa rules can change, so it’s wise to check the latest information with your nearest Thai consulate before travelling.
No vaccinations are legally required to enter Thailand for most travellers. However, routine vaccinations like MMR, tetanus, hepatitis A and typhoid are recommended. Depending on your travel plans, especially if venturing into rural or jungle areas, your travel clinic might also suggest hepatitis B, rabies or Japanese encephalitis. It’s best to consult a healthcare professional four to six weeks before your trip for personalised advice.
Thailand is generally safe for visitors, with well-established tourism infrastructure, especially in popular destinations like Bangkok, Chiang Mai and the southern islands. Petty crime such as pickpocketing can occur, particularly in busy tourist areas, so staying vigilant and securing valuables is advised. Using licensed guides and transport helps ensure a smooth experience. Thailand’s friendly locals and rich culture make it a welcoming destination for travellers of all types.
