Cosmopolitan Amman is quite a contrast to much of the rest of the country. Make sure to take time to visit the roman amphitheatre and the spectacular Amman citadel including the temple of Hercules. It is worth spending a couple of nights in Amman to make sure you include a day trip to Jerash. Without doubt the most spectacular Roman site in Jordan. Amazingly preserved and exceptionally picturesque, they are an essential part of a holiday to Jordan. Including the less visited but very beautiful fortress of Ajlun is a perfect addition to a full day experiencing the best of Jordan’s history.
