A three-week trip covering Brazil's Ecosystems in search of South America's most emblematic species.
Covering the northern and southern Amazon, the cerrado savannah, the eco-tourism hotspot of Bonito and the northern and southern Pantanal, this luxury three-week journey into wild Brazil covers radically different habitats and an astounding variety of unique flora and fauna. Beginning with the jungles of Manaus, you will have the opportunity to explore the region of the Anavilhanas river archipelago from your luxury lodge. At Caiman Lodge in the southern Pantanal, your specialist jaguar-spotting programme will bring you as close as possible to these majestic big cats in their natural habitat as you shadow the conservation team’s valiant efforts to increase the resident populations. In Bonito snorkel in crystal-clear rivers and observe sinkholes full of feeding macaws before travelling to the northern Pantanal for two further days of wildlife activities. Visit the remote forests of the southern Amazon from the charming Cristalino Lodge before finishing your tour searching for maned wolves in the dusty savannahs of the cerrado.
Stay in a luxury lodge in the heart of the Amazon’s Anavilhanas archipelago.
Track jaguars and support conservation efforts at Caiman Ecological Refuge in the southern Pantanal.
Snorkel in crystal-clear rivers and explore caves near Bonito.
Spot giant otters and exotic birds at Cristalino Lodge in the southern Amazon.
Search for rare maned wolves from a remote eco-lodge in the Brazilian cerrado.
The Amazon can be visited year-round, with the high-water season (December to May) offering easier canoe access to flooded forests, and the low-water season (June to November) revealing more hiking trails and wildlife along the riverbanks. The Pantanal is best visited during the dry season (May to October), when animals gather around shrinking water sources, making it one of the best times for wildlife viewing in South America. The Pantanal is best avoided in December and January due to heavy rains, poor access, and reduced wildlife sightings.
The highlight at Porto Joffre was two good sightings of jaguars, one late afternoon, where we saw this magnificent cat both on the river bank and swimming. Birdlife along the Cuiaba river is also prolific.
