A classic introduction to the fascinating country of Oman on a week-long itinerary staying in luxury properties.
Your trip will start with a VIP welcome and transfer through Muscat airport, avoiding the queues and making sure you head straight to your hotel. Spend two nights in this charming city and enjoy a full day tour, taking in the magnificent Grand Mosque, palaces and forts as well as time to explore the bustling souq with its stalls of spices, antiques, textiles and jewellery. From Oman, you will head into the mountains, stopping en-route to visit Nizwa, the former capital of Oman. Explore the 17th-century Nizwa fort with its vast tower and superb views of the oasis. Visit the souq for local products such as Omani daggers (khanjar), copper, silver jewellery, livestock, fish, vegetables and handicrafts for sale. Visit Bahla Fort and Jibrin castle before continuing on to the mountain region of Jebel Akhdar for two nights. Enjoy time to relax here, taking in the stunning mountain scenery and the scent of the rose plantations. Next, you will spend two nights in a private tented camp in Wahiba Sands, a remote and beautiful part of the country, home to the Bedouin for over 7000 years. Enjoy spectacular sunsets, refreshing dips in pristine pools and a warm Bedouin welcome. From Wahiba Sands, return to Muscat, stopping at the coastal city of Sur to see the traditional Dhow boats being constructed. Enjoy a relaxing night back in Muscat as you contemplate the beauty of this special country.
Explore Muscat’s iconic sites including the Grand Mosque, Opera House, Al Alam Palace, Portuguese forts and the bustling Muttrah Souq.
Visit historic Nizwa and the UNESCO-listed Bahla Fort en route to the scenic mountains of Jebel Akhdar.
Relax in Jebel Akhdar, famous for its stunning mountain views and rose water distillation from prized damascina roses.
Discover the traditional village of Birkat Al Mouz with its ancient falaj irrigation system and mud-brick ruins before heading to the desert camp in Wahiba Sands.
Swim in the crystal-clear pools of Wadi Bani Khalid, enjoy desert activities like camel rides and sandboarding, and watch the sunset over the dunes.
This Oman itinerary is best done in the cooler months from October to April to avoid extreme heat, especially in desert and mountain areas. Traveling outside this period is possible but may involve very high temperatures and less comfortable conditions for outdoor activities.
We fell in love with Oman’s dramatic scenery and calm charm. It was the perfect honeymoon.
