Experience Botswana’s varied safari regions from Makgadikgadi riverbanks to Delta waterways.
This itinerary offers a rich contrast of Botswana’s most iconic safari regions, combining riverine landscapes, delta waterways and predator-rich savannahs into one seamless journey.
Begin in the Makgadikgadi region at Leroo La Tau, overlooking the Boteti River, where seasonal wildlife concentrations bring zebra, wildebeest, elephant and predator activity to the riverbanks. From here, the experience unfolds into the Okavango Delta, staying at Xugana Island Lodge, set within a tranquil network of permanent waterways. Explore this serene environment by mokoro or boat, where narrow channels, reed-fringed islands and abundant birdlife define the rhythm of each day.
Continue into the Moremi Game Reserve at Camp Moremi, a diverse and game-rich area offering exceptional year-round wildlife viewing across floodplains, woodlands and lagoons. Game drives reveal a constant flow of sightings, from large herds of herbivores to predators moving through the region.
The journey then reaches the dramatic landscapes of Savute in Chobe National Park, where open plains and marshes support high concentrations of wildlife and frequent predator encounters. Game drives here often deliver some of Botswana’s most memorable safari moments, set against a vast and atmospheric wilderness backdrop.
Watch vast herds of zebra, wildebeest, elephant and lion gather along the Boteti River in the Makgadikgadi, creating one of Botswana’s most dramatic wildlife scenes.
Explore the surrounding landscapes on game drives from Leroo La Tau, where riverine wilderness meets the Kalahari edge.
Drift through the crystal-clear channels of the Okavango Delta by mokoro at Xugana, surrounded by reeds, birdlife and tranquil waterways.
Set out on classic game drives in Moremi Game Reserve, known for its rich mix of predators, plains game and diverse habitats.
Discover the wild, predator-rich plains of Savute in Chobe National Park, famous for lion activity and seasonal zebra migration.
The best time for this itinerary is May to October, during Botswana’s dry season, when wildlife viewing in the Okavango Delta, including Moremi Game Reserve, and Chobe National Park is at its peak as animals gather around water sources.
June to August offers cooler, comfortable safari conditions with excellent game and boating at Xugana Island Lodge, while September and October bring the most concentrated wildlife sightings, especially around Savute Safari Lodge.
This was one of the most immersive safaris we have done, with spectacular wildlife, ever-changing scenery and consistently outstanding guiding throughout.
