Covering more than 22,000 square kilometres, Kafue National Park is one of Africa’s largest protected areas and among its most ecologically diverse. The park’s immense scale encompasses river systems, miombo woodlands, floodplains and open savannah, creating habitats for an extraordinary variety of wildlife. The Busanga Plains in the north are a highlight, particularly during the dry season when seasonal floods recede and grazing animals gather in large numbers. Lions are frequently seen here, alongside cheetahs and endangered African wild dogs. Further south, the Kafue River and its tributaries support boat safaris that reveal hippos, crocodiles and prolific birdlife.
