The historic medina is without doubt a highlight of Morocco. The striking red walls are nearly one thousand years old; step through the majestic gates to discover a sprawling maze of souks, hotels and artisan workshops. At the heart of it all is Djema el-Fnaa, the bustling square which comes alive at night. Here you can visit a food stall for some delicious traditional cuisine, listen to storytellers, marvel at snake charmers and shop for spices. The clamour of the stall holders mixes with music and the roar of mopeds as you gaze across a scene lit by lights and obscured by smoke from the various food stalls.
