While Marrakesh is the most famous, Fes is the spiritual heart of the country and long thought of as the cultural and religious capital. Step back in time as you explore the twists and turns of the city’s medina and discover the various neighbourhoods of this alluring city.
Morocco’s landscapes are varied, from imposing mountains to striking desert and charming seaside towns. For more cosmopolitan cities, head to Rabat, Tangier or Casablanca but for laidback bohemian luxury, our favourite is Essaouira. Explore the charming bohemian port, the muddle of blue coloured boats and take a walk along the windswept beach.
The high Atlas Mountains are easily reached from Marrakesh. These snow-capped peaks are a haven for hikers with numerous trails through Berber villages and spectacular scenery. Life here has remained untouched for almost centuries, and it is the perfect place to relax and unwind in a tranquil retreat. Continuing over the mountains, the Moroccan Sahara spreads out to the south. An expanse of stunning dunes, oasis towns and palm groves, here you will find charming trading posts and luxury desert camps offering a night under the stars.

A stay of 7 to 10 days allows you to explore Morocco’s key highlights without feeling rushed, from the vibrant souks of Marrakech, the blue streets of Chefchaouen, to the Sahara Desert and the Atlas Mountains. With 10 to 14 days, you can travel at a more relaxed pace or explore further afield, perhaps including Fes, the coastal town of Essaouira or even a desert camp experience. The country’s variety of landscapes, architecture and cultural depth make even a short trip incredibly rewarding.
We recommend keeping Morocco as a destination in its own right, given how culturally and geographically rich it is. The contrast between bustling medinas, tranquil riads, Berber villages and desert landscapes offers more than enough to fill a dedicated itinerary.
Citizens from many countries, including the UK, EU, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days. However, visa policies can change, so we recommend checking with your nearest Moroccan embassy or consulate before travelling. Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your entry date.
No vaccinations are required by law for entry into Morocco, but routine immunisations should be up to date. It’s recommended to have hepatitis A, typhoid, and tetanus, particularly if you’re planning rural or adventurous travel. Consult a travel health clinic at least 4 to 6 weeks before departure for personalised guidance.
Morocco is generally very safe for travellers, particularly in popular tourist areas like Marrakech, Fes, Essaouira and the Atlas Mountains. Petty crime like pickpocketing can occur in busy medinas, so we advise taking normal precautions. In rural areas, hospitality is a point of pride, and you’ll often be welcomed warmly. Dress modestly and respect local customs, especially during Ramadan and always use a licensed guide for treks or desert excursions.
