The coast of Colombia boasts unspoilt beaches, a tropical climate and thriving reefs.
Colombia is the only South American country bordered by two coastlines. To the west, it meets the Pacific Ocean, and to the north, it hugs the Caribbean Sea.
The northern Caribbean coastline is famous for its picturesque turquoise waters and exceptional diving spots. Many beaches here are deserted, framed by lush primary rainforest. Tayrona National Park is a prime example of this isolated beauty. The park features a pristine environment full of diverse flora and fauna, smooth massive boulders shaped by the sea, and a rare sense of tranquillity.
Thatched huts belonging to ancient indigenous tribes can be found here. A challenging hike from the beaches into the jungle offers a glimpse of their traditional lifestyles. Along the way, you might see hummingbirds, agoutis, and, if lucky, cotton-top tamarins.
In contrast, the Pacific coastline is wilder and more rugged. Its big waves attract surfers, and it’s a great place to spot humpback whales during their migration.
For those seeking remote paradise, the islands of San Andrés, Providencia, and Santa Catalina offer desolate beaches and crystal-clear waters. Located near Nicaragua but owned by Colombia, these islands are perfect for swimming with stingrays and snorkelling or diving in coral reefs with visibility up to 30 metres.
The islands have a laid-back vibe, with reggae rhythms and a slow pace of life – ideal for adding a unique and relaxing touch to a luxury holiday in Colombia.
