North East Brazil

Northeast Brazil is a beach lover’s paradise, with the states of Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, and Alagoas offering sun-soaked shores and a relaxed, tropical atmosphere. This region also includes the stunning archipelago of Fernando de Noronha, located 350 km off the mainland.

The cities of Recife and Natal serve as gateways, but the true gems lie further afield. Recife, dubbed the “Venice of Brazil” for its canals, bursts into life during Carnival, and it’s best enjoyed alongside nearby Olinda, a beautifully preserved colonial town. South of Recife is Porto de Galinhas, one of Brazil’s favourite beach destinations. Offshore reefs create natural pools teeming with tropical fish, perfect for snorkelling. Continue down the coast to Praia dos Carneiros, one of Brazil’s most picturesque beaches, and into Alagoas, where secluded pousadas and quiet, reef-protected beaches await in towns like Maragogi and São Miguel dos Milagres.

Near Natal, Praia da Pipa is a popular coastal town with a laid-back charm. While beloved by backpackers and surfers, it also offers upscale accommodation for those seeking luxury and comfort.

A highlight of the region is Fernando de Noronha, a remote archipelago and protected marine park accessible by a short flight. With limited hotel space and strict visitor controls, it remains an exclusive retreat, especially popular with celebrities. The main island is home to Baía do Sancho, often ranked among the world’s best beaches. With excellent snorkelling, diving, and surfing, Northeast Brazil is the perfect way to end any trip with style and serenity.
